Make Art – Eat Cake: Sculpture Edition

Participants from the 29 September session, proudly showcasing their pet sculptures!

Sculpture from attendee, Bri Egan and her muse!

I had the joy of running some exciting new Make Art – Eat Cake workshops with a brand-new twist: sculpture! Instead of brushes and canvases, participants brought along photos of their beloved pets and transformed them into clay creations using air-dry clay and paint.

Over the sessions, I guided the group through a variety of sculpting techniques β€” from shaping and texture to painting and finishing β€” and it was inspiring to see everyone’s confidence grow. For some, it was their very first time sculpting, yet every participant walked away with a treasured artwork to keep. The room was full of creativity, laughter, and plenty of cake!

The warm feedback from participants captured the spirit of the workshops beautifully:

β€œBoth yourself and your mother have such a fantastic energy. You can tell you’re very passionate which made the whole session even better since you and your mother seemed genuinely excited by everyone’s artwork. It was a really lovely atmosphere.” – Beth

β€œWe had so much fun learning some new techniques, chatting and eating delicious cake! Marianne is a patient and skilled teacher and we loved the end product. Thank you!” – Ally

β€œSuch a fun workshop to do with friends and family. The host is incredibly lovely and extremely helpful. Will definitely be joining another class.”

These sculpture sessions were a wonderful reminder of how art brings people together β€” not only through the joy of making, but also through connection, conversation, and shared creativity (and of course, cake!).

Stay tuned for more sculpture editions of Make Art - Eat Cake coming soon!
