German Language Community Group

German Language Group – Intermediate Conversation & Reading

Looking to deepen your German skills in a friendly, supportive environment?
Join our long-running German Language Group at Gungahlin Library, led by Marion Verbruggen, an experienced teacher with over 30 years of language teaching and a lifelong love of the German language.

This is a social but serious group: we laugh, learn, and share, but everyone is expected to prepare and participate. Each week, we read chapters from set texts, then come together to discuss, ask and answer questions, and build vocabulary, fluency, and confidence in grammar.

Many participants have been with the group for over six years, and we’re excited to welcome a few new members who share our commitment to learning and community.

Is this group right for you?

This group is best suited to learners who:

  • Already have an intermediate level of German (able to read and understand simple texts, hold a basic conversation, and follow along in group discussion).

  • Are happy to complete weekly reading and homework.

  • Enjoy a mix of structured learning and social discussion.

  • Value a consistent, long-term learning community.

Before you join

To help keep the group balanced, new members are invited to audit one class before deciding to join. After that, Marion will have a friendly chat with you to make sure the group is a good fit for your level and goals.

This way, we ensure that everyone feels comfortable, supported, and challenged at the right level.
