Intermediate Conversation & Reading

Looking to deepen your German speaking skills in a friendly, supportive environment?
Join our long-running German Language Group at Gungahlin Library, led by Marion Verbruggen, an experienced language teacher with over 30 years of language teaching and a lifelong love of the German language.

This is a social but serious group: we laugh, learn, and talk in German. Each week, everyone is expected to prepare texts beforehand at home and then come together to discuss, ask and answer questions, and build vocabulary, fluency, and confidence in speaking in German while learning techniques to tackle more challenging texts. Grammar is discussed as it comes up.

We’re excited to welcome new members who like to share our commitment to learning and community.

Is this group right for you?

This group is best suited to learners who:

  • Already have an intermediate level of German (able to read and understand simple texts, hold a basic conversation, and follow along in group discussion).

  • Are happy to complete weekly reading and preparation.

  • Value a consistent, long-term learning community.

Before you join

To help keep the group balanced, new members are invited to audit one session before deciding to join. After that, Marion will have a friendly chat with you to make sure the group is a good fit for your level and goals.

This way, we ensure that everyone feels comfortable, supported, and challenged at the right level.

If this sounds like the right group for you, we’d love to hear from you. Please fill in the below form to express your interest. You will be contacted or put on the waitlist, pending availability and your level.
