The success of Make Art – Eat Cake
Over the past few months, I’ve had the joy of running six sessions (so far) of my Make Art – Eat Cake workshop series — each one buzzing with creativity, laughter, and (of course!) delicious cake.
Session 1: 28 September
Cockatoo on a Branch – Printmaking Edition
The theme for this first series was Cockatoo on a Branch. Participants learned printmaking techniques, experimenting with colour, texture, and design to create their own unique version of the artwork. By the end of each session, everyone went home with a framed finished piece — a joyful reminder of their creative afternoon.
It didn’t matter whether people were total beginners or seasoned makers — everyone discovered new skills, and every single participant left with something they were proud of.
Session 2: Mother’s Day 11 May
Session 3: May 18th
Cake, Coffee & Connection
True to the name, each session included a pause midway for a social break with specially made cakes, lovingly created just for the workshops. Each event featured a different cake flavour — from decadent slices to trays of bite-sized mini cakes — always paired with barista coffee or tea. These breaks became a highlight of the session, with participants chatting, laughing, and bonding over both art and cake.
A Sustainable Creative Experience
Another special part of these workshops is the use of reused and recycled materials. Not only did this give participants an even more wholesome and mindful creative experience, but it also sparked conversations about resourcefulness and sustainability in art-making.
Session 4: 23 May
A Welcoming Space for All
Session 5: 22 June
Every workshop brought together a wonderful mix of people — some arriving solo, keen to meet other art lovers, and others coming along with friends or family. The atmosphere was always warm, welcoming, and filled with encouragement.
One participant summed it up perfectly:
“The classes are fun and social and the cake is amazing too. Marianne is a great teacher, kind, supportive and enthusiastic. Her passion for art and life is infectious and makes every class a joy to be in.”
Another shared:
“Thank you for creating such a fun and supportive space where we could learn and create. I loved every moment!”
Some attendees even sent me photos later on, proudly showing their cockatoo artworks displayed on their walls or desks at home and in their offices.
Session 6: July 17th
