This course is for students who have completed the ‘Dutch 2’ course. If you have an equivalent level, contact us to schedule a video call meeting with the course leader to assess your language level and understanding prior to enrolling.

This course aims to further develop conversational skills for everyday situations through speaking and listening activities. Learners will increase their confidence in speaking and conversation, with a special focus on pronunciation, listening skills, sentence structure, and ways of saying things that are typically Dutch. Grammar, vocabulary and theory topics are adjusted and tailored to each class context. Dialogues in authentic situations, poems, cartoons, songs, short videos, and reading material can be used as a starting point for conversation.

Students can also be encouraged to participate in role play, listening and speaking exercises to help with responding to questions, improving sentence structure and grammar.

To fully benefit from the course, students are expected to prepare and revise in between lessons.

Classes are taught by Marion, who is a passionate native Dutch speaker and professional teacher with over 30 teaching years experience.

Currently only available to adult learners.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this course, most students will have:

• developed basic conversational skills,

• strategies to better understand and speak Dutch in everyday situations,

• improved fluency, pronunciation and sentence structure,

• more familiarity with Dutch culture,

• the ability to engage in conversations in various situations, including expressing opinions on a variety of topics.

The pace of the course will vary according to the group.

Requirements:

1. A stable internet connection, with webcam and audio capability

2. A quiet space with minimal background noise

3. A writing-pad and pen to take notes

4. Please ensure you have your webcam switched on and your mic off when you join the class.

5. Join 10 mins early if you like to test your connection and webcam/audio

Note: It is advised that you have two devices during the live class, so that you can access the support materials while you participate in the live call (i.e. a mobile device with the course materials next to a laptop with the live session). Alternatively you can print out the materials before the class.

You will receive a welcome email a week prior to the start date with the Google Meet joining link and further instructions.

• Time: 6-8 pm AEDT / AEST (short break midway)
